5 Biliranon's qualify for 2018 JLSS

Five out of the 202 passers from Region 8 of the 2018 Junior Level Science Scholarship (JLSS) conducted on October 20, 2018 are from Biliran. They are the following, with the corresponding Program they qualify, the school they are enrolled, and their respective courses:

(1) RA 10612, CORCILLES, MARY JOLLE SANOSA, EASTERN VISAYAS STATE UNIVERSITY, BS ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE
(2) RA 7687, DEJARLO, CATHERINE JOY TENOSO, NAVAL STATE UNIVERSITY, BS INFORMATION SYSTEMS
(3) RA 7687, FUERTES, LEONARD VAPOROSO, NAVAL STATE UNIVERSITY, BS COMPUTER SCIENCE
(4) RA 7687, NOTARION, RACHEL PENARANDA, EASTERN VISAYAS STATE UNIVERSITY-TACLOBAN, BS ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING
(5) RA 10612, VIVERO, PAULINE MAE GARING, NAVAL STATE UNIVERSITY, BSE BIOLOGY.

Nationwide, a total of 946 qualifiers were announced by the Science Education Institute last December 23,2018 on their official website.

These students are the regular third year college enrolled in various S&T courses who are set to enjoy the JLSS starting from the first semester of the school year 2018-2019.

The JLSS is a scholarship program under the Republic Act No. 7687 or the S&T Scholarship Act of 1994,” R.A. No. 10612 or the “Fast-Tracked S&T Scholarship Act of 2013.” And the R.A. No. 2067 or the Merit Scholarship Program.” These qualifiers will get to enjoy two to three years of S&T scholarship grant, which includes subsidy in tuition fee and other school fees, book allowance, monthly stipend, clothing allowance, transportation allowance and health insurance.

Students under Merit Scholarship program will likewise receive the same benefits except for the pro-rated stipend based on the scholar’s family socio-economic status. Along with their benefits are their responsibilities. As a return-service, scholars under RA 10612 are expected to teach STEM in the basic education level, particularly in their respective home regions. They will be prioritized for job placement and will be employed by the DepED in a position equivalent to a Special Science Teacher I in Philippine Science High School System.

Meanwhile, graduates of the RA 7687 and RA 2067 Programs are required to work with their chosen fields within the country for a period which is equivalent to the number of years they enjoyed the scholarship program.
