DOST 8 approves PhP 2.1 M assistance to 5 MSMEs in Biliran

The Department of Science and Technology Regional Office No. VIII approved recently a total amount of PhP 2.1 M financial assistance to upgrade the facilities of 5 firms in the Province of Biliran under the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP). The proponents have signed the Memorandum of Agreement for the implementation of the projects. 

The fund will be used to acquire improved technologies and procure technology related equipment to boost the productivity of these firms. The five firms located in different municipalities of the Island Province of Biliran include the following: 

1) Lloyd’s Meat Shop, Almeria, Biliran for the Upgrading of its meat processing facility with the adoption of high fiber sausage technology and acquisition of GMP compliant meat processing equipment as well as improvement of their packaging; 

2) Cassandra’s Events and General Services, the operator of the famous Kubo Café of Caibiran, Biliran for the upgrading of their coffee brewing and grinding machine used in the production of ready to drink coffee. 

3) Diovanni’s Pizza House, from Naval, Biliran received assistance for the acquisition of improved oven and other GMP compliant equipment for the production of their popular pizza variants. 

4) DJ Printing Services and Sports Apparel another firm from Naval, Biliran also received SETUP assistance for the acquisition of sublimation printer and related equipment for production of souvenirs, t-shirts, and other apparels. 

5) Norma Sari-sari Store, from Kawayan, Biliran who ventured into tube ice production was assisted in acquiring improved ice molders and packaging equipment. 

The SETUP support is expected to generate direct employment of at least 8 persons and provide an average increase in production capacity of the firms from 50% to 100%. Likewise, the DOST’s technology support will enable the firms to focus its investment in improving their facilities while DOST addresses their technology problems.
